JAPANESE EDO PERIOD KABUTO
A Japanese kabuto, of the ôboshi type, the kiritsuke zane kasa-shikoro neck cover - in the umbrella style - composed of 18 iron blades which by the indentation of the upper edge and by its lacquering, imitate the effect of a row of strips or scales, the big wings (fukikaeshi) gives it a very nice overall look. The wings include coats of arms (kamon) representing chrysanthemums - symbolizing the absence of age and immortality. The central mitsukuwagata decoration consists of stylized horns and centred by a Buddhist sword (ken Acala). Kanji inside the stamp, probably the name of the daimyô (Heian Housen), as well as the gunsmith’s school (made by Kosaka) Myochin Oosuminokami Norimune Suke 1735, at the age of 74. Edo Period.
