AN ANGLO-DUTCH TORTOISESHELL CENTRE TABLE
A very rare Anglo-Dutch red-tinted tortoiseshell and kingwood veneered centre table, the rectangular top with ripple-moulded rim and geometrical inlay above a frieze drawer and square tapering legs joined by an H-stretcher on ebonised bun feet.
One drawer.
Ca 1780.
The underside of the drwawer numbered “204 16” and “14983” in white chalk. Very good condition.
Dimensions : 96,5 cm long, 66 cm wide and 76 cm high.
Comparanda :
- A commode, sold by Mallett in 1995, with very similar decoration and inlay, catalogued as “England ca 1780”. Certainly by the same furniture-maker as our table.
- A pair of similar commodes were on sale with Christopher Hodsoll.
