AN ITALIAN BELLOWS

An Italian Baroque carved walnut bellows, elaborately carved in relief with grotesque masks and figures, with the mouth of the back central face serving as air-inlet ; with mask terminate issuing a bronze dragon spout.
Italy, 18th/19th century.
Dimensions : 77 cm long
Ornamental bellows were probably intended to complement the large architectural chimney pieces that were the focus of the Italian Renaissance interior.
