A DUTCH LIMEWOOD SIDE TABLE OR KWABTAFEL
The rectangular moulded grey-veined white marble above four scrolled carved supports with eagle heads among auricular and foliate scrolls, centered by carved auricular masks. This side table is executed in the Dutch mid-17th century 'kwabstijl' or auricular style, which was influenced by the Utrecht gold- and silversmiths Paulus and Adam van Vianen (1568-1627). The kwabstijl is usually associated with the zoomorphic and mysterious objects created by these artists.
